Scripture Reading:  Matthew 2, Psalm 139:16, John 1:11;3:16, Hebrew 13:5-6

The Day our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was born marked the most important turning point in history for all mankind.  The Scriptures had been fulfilled and the Magi came to worship the new King of Kings.  Not only did they worship, in celebration of His birth, they came bearing gifts.  As we read the passage in Matthew 2, the picture of a family celebrating a very special occasion together emerges.  So it is today during this significant holiday season; for many people it is a time of good cheer, excitement, and an opportunity to get together with family and friends to exchange gifts, attend parties, attend worship services and other holiday events.  However, for many individuals their lives have been changed by traumatic circumstances and life’s events; such as divorce and separation.  Traumatic circumstances and life’s events can trigger emotions and memories for many people who dread all of the holiday activities surrounding this special time of year.

Instead of experiencing love, joy and peace, countless individuals experience the pain of abandonment, rejection and loneliness because they are no longer with the person or people they loved.  Many of these individuals become restless souls, experience depression and a few tragically commit suicide without ever realizing that their entire existence and purpose was ordained by God.  In the Scriptures, we find that Jesus knows all too well what it feels like to be rejected and abandoned to say the least.  The good news is that because of His great love for us, Jesus choose to accept the Will of God and fulfill His purpose.  It is comforting to know that the Holy One, The Lord Jesus Christ who loves us will never leave us or give up on us.  Because of His birth, death and resurrection, we can live and celebrate the life we have in Christ by embracing the joy and love of the Christmas holiday.  We can truly have a Merry Christmas by unwrapping His gift of love.

Reflection and Prayer:  Heavenly Father, You love me with an everlasting love.  During the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, help me to delight myself in You, for You have promised to give me the desires of my heart.  At this special time of the year, may I remember that the birth of Jesus paved the way for me to center my life on You, to walk above my circumstances and find joy in pursuing my God-given purpose.  In the name of Jesus. Amen
