Psalm 139:1-7 (NIV) “You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?”

Sometimes in prayer, it may seem difficult to just talk with God about what’s going on in the day. To ask Him what He has planned and how we can be a part of it, or even make a request. However, God created us to be in a relationship with Him. When Jesus became our savior, he removed all of the distance that existed between God and man due to sin. Because of this, God has promised that as His children He is always with us. We can come to Him boldly and interact with Him at any time (Hebrews 10: 19-23).

A simple definition of prayer is just having a conversation with God. God knows our yesterdays, today, and tomorrows. He knows us inside and out. The parts we let others see and the parts we let only Him see. God wants us to know we are free to come to Him without restriction and be in a relationship with Him. God wants to hear our words, thoughts, and prayers. Since God already knows who we are and where we are in life, we don’t have to come to Him with ceremony. We don’t have to read a script. We can just be ourselves and talk with our Father.

Whatever you are facing today, wherever you are in life, know that God is there with you. He sees you and hears you. Remember: Prayer is a two-way conversation. As we talk to God, He is also speaking to us. Sometimes He is responding to a prayer we’ve already made. Other times, He may be the initiator of the conversation. Do not be afraid to speak to your Heavenly Father and to hear Him speak to you as well. If you don’t know the words to say, just start with what’s in your heart. The prayer does not have to be complicated. Just come to God as you are and receive the grace, love, and mercy He has set aside for you. Take comfort in knowing that the Creator of the Universe wants to be in a relationship with you and trust that He cares about you.

Prayer: God thank you for love and desiring a real relationship with us. We will come to you boldly and without restriction because Jesus gave his life in the same manner so we would be saved. Thank you for speaking words of life to us and hearing when we call. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
