“As for you, the anointing [the special gift, the preparation] which you received from Him remains [permanently] in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But just as His anointing teaches you [giving you insight through the presence of the Holy Spirit] about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as His anointing has taught you, you must remain in Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him].”

1 John 2:27 Amplified Bible

One of my most favorite and cherished childhood memories is one of my mother preparing my siblings and I for school, or for church, or just going out period. As very young children, many times we would climb onto the kitchen counter just high enough for mom to smear lotion, baby oil or Vaseline on our arms, legs, and face. Her soft, warm hands would ooze the liquid all over and smear it deeply into our skin demanding that all the dry skin be removed and the delicate aroma of the liquid fill the air. Mom would encourage and pray for us and tell us to behave. At other times, she would even hum a lovely tune or sing over us. She was preparing us for the day or for the event.

Recently, I was reading a scripture verse about “the anointing” and the Lord brought the above memory back to me as an example. The word “anoint” means to smear or rub with oil (sort of like mom smearing lotion or baby oil all over us). It is not only a special gift from our Father, but a symbol of His permanent claim on each one of us. With this anointing, it is an opportunity to be rooted in Him and even knit together with Him because we are touched and handled by His own hands. We are lavished with the lotion of His Love. I like to say that this sacred process is to be made “Inseparable!” from Him. Just as with mother and sometimes even with dad, it was a time of bonding.

Just think about it! To be anointed is to be forever imprinted with His Love. Our immeasurable all eternal God and Father of us all, beckons to us each and every morning, throughout the day and every evening to come into His Presence to be smeared, to bond. There, in His presence, God lavishes us tenderly with His love and all that we need, so that we may face whatever comes our way. He tuck us in at night with a sure protection against any assault or assailant whether spiritual or physical. With His own hands, He,  Who touches the hills and they smoke, the Master and Creator of the universe permanently stains us with Who He is and what we are meant to be and do, forever bonding us to Himself. Every passionate touch shouts, “Remember your roots. You are Mine. I AM with you always – regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion, even to the end!”

Prayer/Reflection:  Father, I thank You for Your tender care and anointing. I humbly, but boldly come to You.  I bathe in the water of Your word from head to toe allowing it to remove the dirt and filth of the enemy’s schemes and accusations. You lavish me in Your love and I am anointed to overcome and remain rooted in You, bonded and inseparable! I receive insight from Your awesome Presence to gain understanding and to stand victorious in Your love and truth.  I stand delivered in Your love.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
