Suggested Reading:  (Psalm 46:10)

In a world where life demands that we run at the speed of lighting, one can see evidence of this as we start each day going into all kinds of direction that seem to demand our attention. For some folks, mornings begin with coffee, tea, or juice and maybe breakfast if time allows. For others it’s about starting the day with getting fit; walking, jogging or going to the gym.  All of these examples are not negative in themselves and just might be necessary to meet the basic needs of living.

In the midst of an energized world of everlasting busyness, we realize that challenging trials and adverse circumstances still occur. In other words, stuff happens and we attempt to run our lives at a high speed as though it is just another typical day. At this point you may be saying “I pull myself up by the boot string. I do whatever it takes to finish each day”. My friends, did you know that your Heavenly Father does not want you to take this kind of low road attitude? He wants you to travel the high road of faith.

God speaks to His children in His own Words by saying “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).  Some have misunderstood the meaning of this passage to mean sitting still and completely stop engaging in activities. It is just the opposite. This Hebrew usage of language means to “let go” or “surrender”, “drop what’s in your hands”; to know that He is God means to reflect and know His saving power in our lives. God doesn’t want us to hide in a cave in solitude in order to be still and meditate. He expects us to continue daily living and being a witness and testimony of His Kingdom.

We can do this based on the mercy, grace and goodness of God through Jesus Christ.  We can trust Him with a legal transfer of “stuff that binds and bounds us” by the Blood of Jesus Christ. We can leave our stock pile of stuff at the cross and walk away in victory and complete joy. I am reminded of the words of a song that we sing in church: “What can I say, what can I do, but give a complete heart of surrender to You”. That’s our calling, to give our spirit, soul and body to the One who created us in Jesus Christ.

Reflection and Prayer: Lord, I know that Your perfect love has cast out all the things that had me bound.  You are Mighty in Truth and Power, and nothing is impossible for You. Help me to place my dependence on you and to hold on to Your promises, for when I am weak, I find strength in You.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
